PLACE MAKING & POP-UP PLACES
The existence and multiplication of under/ misused spaces in cities create as many ruptures in the urban cores, leading to a series of problems such as cleanliness or feelings of insecurity.
Using a bottom-up rather than a top-down approach to tackle the issue, these abandoned places may turn into new destinations for users. By giving specific functionalities back to public space and meeting users’ aspirations, place making restores public realm to its former glory. Involving users as experts in the (re)design of urban space is key to operate the transformation.
Pop-up places are temporary layouts tested before engaging into long-term investments. Built out of INTERREG IVB's Lively cities' project, the AMCV has developed methodolgies and tools to set up successful actions of place making, starting with pop-up places.
